Profile
Richard Wellens is head coach at Leyton Orient, where he took charge in the 2023-24 season. The Walthamstow-based club competes in League One, and Wellens has brought a methodical, structured approach to the role after his previous managerial stints in the lower divisions.
Wellens began his career as a midfielder and progressed through non-league and lower-tier football before transitioning into management. His coaching experience spans several clubs across the lower reaches of the English pyramid, where he earned a reputation for building competitive teams on modest budgets. He has overseen multiple managerial positions at clubs operating in the third tier and below, bringing continuity and a clear tactical philosophy to each appointment. His focus has consistently been on developing young talent and establishing sustainable success rather than pursuing short-term fixes.
